10Sep2022: The Return

I have finally returned and made my first real commits in a month+...what happened? I definitely lost my way and was wrapped up with so much that studying has become secondary. I work full time now so I don't know if I can daily be able to code but certainly on weekends so let's hope I'll be able to do that.

I've kind of shifted my focus with studying; definitely want to keep studying data structures and algorithms and all the good computer science fundamentals. Still working on CS50, still reading The Self-Taught Computer Scientist - I find that it's not difficult to understand the concepts but being able to use them has not be easy. I will keep studying and repeating though. In terms of shifting my focus, I might still brush up on the web development items but I do need to improve my programming fundamentals; this I believe will happen through doing more Python courses as opposed to React apps. I really enjoy web development and would not want to lose it at all, but I do have a bit more of a focus on coding fundamentals in my current job so I'm planning to dig out my Python courses and continue on those.

Apart from that I was refreshing writing Linked Lists today, but I can tell I definitely need to start studying again as it's all going above my head. I find the Python programming still to be rather cryptic - it's not like JavaScript where even though it has a lot more syntactical requirements, conceptually it makes sense to me. Python will I'm sure but right now to def init what nots in the computer science fundamentals has been confusing me. I wonder if it would be the same if there were JavaScript examples.

In any case I hope to get back into the swing of things even if just for the weekend. I sometimes wonder if these CS items are too advanced right now and I should start somewhere more basic - it all does help though, even if it seems to be going over my head in the moment, the next time I see it it makes more sense, and I can definitely tell that I am able to think like a coder when I'm at work and debugging things.
