What has my attention this month. Updated when it changes rather than on a schedule, which is the only way a page like this stays honest.

  • Rewriting the selection model

    Most of my week is inside the Vellum editor, replacing a selection model that assumed text was one-dimensional. It was not, and has not been since we added tables. This is the third attempt and the first one I believe.

  • Reading, slowly

    Working through Bringhurst again, twenty pages at a time, and Ellen Lupton's Thinking with Type beside it. Also a long detour into printing history that started as research for Halftone and has not stopped.

  • Sixty kilometres of coast path

    Walking the north Zealand coast in weekend sections, drawing each one in Tiny Atlas afterwards. Four printed and folded so far. The elevation strip is doing a lot of work on the flat bits.

  • Saying no more often

    Not taking freelance work this year. I said yes to too much in 2025 and the things I actually cared about were the ones that slipped. The list is shorter now and the writing is finally regular.
