Six jobs the group chat was never built for

Keep the chat for the banter. Move these somewhere a member can still find them on Saturday at 6:40.

  • Who's coming

    In the group chat

A poll, 31 thumbs, and nobody sure which count is the current one.

    On Pacer

A live count by pace group, with a waitlist when a group fills.

  • Where to meet

    In the group chat

A dropped pin from last March, scrolled past twice.

    On Pacer

The start pinned on the route and repeated in every reminder.

  • Which group

    In the group chat

Someone asks what pace B runs, at the start line, every week.

    On Pacer

Members pick a group when they say yes. Leads see the split by Friday.

  • A canceled run

    In the group chat

A message at 5:40 AM that half the club reads from the parking lot.

    On Pacer

One tap. Everyone who said yes gets a notification and an email, with the reason.

  • New members

    In the group chat

Added to a 200-person chat and left to work it out.

    On Pacer

One link with the next run, the pace groups and who to look for.

  • After the run

    In the group chat

A head count from memory and forty photos.

    On Pacer

Check-ins, first-timers and streaks, tallied before the coffee.

Questions about how it works

Anything we missed, write to us. A run lead answers, usually before Saturday.

[email protected]
Can a club have more than one run a week?

As many as you like. Tuesday track, Thursday social and the Saturday long run each get their own card, route and groups, and members only hear about the ones they follow.

What if a member doesn't have a smartphone?

They can say yes from any browser, or a lead can add them by name at the start. The check-in sheet doesn't care how someone got on it.

Do leads and sweepers need their own accounts?

Yes, and they're free. A lead can post and cancel runs, a sweeper sees the check-in sheet for their own group, and the club owner decides who is which.

Does Pacer track runs like a watch does?

No. Pacer organizes the run and counts who came. Times and splits stay on whatever watch or app each runner already uses.

Can members see who else is going?

They see the count and the names in their own pace group. Leads see everyone. A member can hide their name from the list in one setting.
