Can you check if your hosting provider has SMTP blocked by default. This seems to be the problem that I'm seeing while searching around for this issue. Take a look at this article: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/27957461/digital-ocean-and-gmail-smtp-server-give-error

Yep, that should allow you to send with google smtp. Have you added that setting to your email account that you want to send from?

I would either suggest using another email system such as Mailgun, or I would switch hosts. It seems the problem we are running into is that your hosting provider is blocking SMTP, which is preventing emails from being sent out through Gmail.

Let me know if you think either of those will work.
