Framework size/speed concerns.

So this is probably dumb, and maybe being told that would be a good thing. Far and away, most of my experience is with WordPress building custom themes from scratch, using as few plug-ins as possible. [senior citizen homes](http://www.gagannulife.com/)

I've done a few non-WordPress web apps from scratch, following mvc standards, and am at the point in my career where the only way to really grow is to get into a framework and learn more about industry standards. Looking at Laravel and Symfony, they both seem massive. Laravel is almost 10k files, Symfony is over 14k, and I would, perhaps naively, expect that to have any web app built on them notoriously slow.

I'm a minimalist in many ways, and it definitely shows in my code, and maybe that has me looking at this the wrong way.

So I guess the question is: how much of a performance issue will I experience with either of these two frameworks? If so, would you say that it's worth it considering the development time it saves?
