    Hi!

I love Chatter and forums that have such a clean design! I was wondering on how this could be improved and I compared it a little with the Laracasts Discussions site. One feature I see myself using there all the time is there filters.

I think those are very useful and having some more of those would be great. Obviously, that behavior exists already in Chatter, but I personally would enjoy it a little more if there was some separation in between the channels and the filters such as, "Random, My Favorites, Hot Topics", etc. But that's my person opinion and doesnt need to be shared obviously.

I also think having that sidebar present in the discussion view would be nice as well.

I figured I might as well post it here and see what you guys think of it :-)

Thanks for this awesome forum package!

    Really good idea.

    However just a few questions.
    - What should be the definition of a popular discussion?
    - I have no clue what so ever on what to do with the leaderboard.
    - For answered questions and unanswered questions we might first need some kind of system to mark a discussion as a question requesting help and a way to mark something as a solution.

    Thanks.

I have given it the definition of popular discussion some thought and I came up with three options:
    * The most views of the past hour (or whatever other time interval, yet I think 1 hour is a good medium)
    * The most comments of the past hour
    * The most different commentators of the past hour

The more thought I gave it, the most fitting solution, though, would be to check the views of the past hour, because it does not necessarily have to be a popular discussion when just 2 users are spamming/discussing something trivial in the comments. The reason I would not choose the most different commentators is the fact that it requires people to comment. Let's say the admin would post some news about the site and then locks (not too sure if this is even an option atm) the post for further discussion. It is still possible to be a popular post, even though there is no one commenting on it.

I personally don't think the leaderboard is that necessary. Yes, it probably would be a cool option to have sometimes, but definitely not necessary. We would have to assign a certain amount of points that a user receives for commenting, creating a new topic, and solving a question, if that's an option.

For answered questions and unanswered questions, I agree, we would have to make some additions to what is already available.

I think it would be great a more separate "Filter and Channel" sidebar, that way those filters could get used for the channels as well. Now, it is debatable which filters are necessary, probably with time we could have optional filters as well (like leaderboard), but I personally would enjoy using filers such as, "All Threads", "Random" (maybe), "Most Popular", "My Topics/Questions", "My Favorites".

    Thanks.
