If you're interested in learning how to code more traditionally, you can attend a university in which you would want to choose between majoring in Computer Engineering or Computer Science. The difference between the two majors is that Computer Engineering is based more on coding for hardware while Computer Science is built more for software. For those that already went to a university before and gotten their masters in music education already so they don't want to go back just for another major, they can go through self-learning. Self-learning entails either going through online courses people have created that imitate college courses but at your rate, or books that go chapter-by-chapter to learn all of the programming fundamentals you'll need no matter what programming language you decide to use. Make sure that you fully understand what type of education works for you the most when you want to become a coder.

Knowing what programming languages you want to use is important to becoming a coder. However, you're going to need the right hardware as well to make sure that you're able to be a coder whenever you're looking to code. First, think if you want to have a desktop or a laptop as your main computer. By choosing your main computer, you can put more money into it to make sure that it runs as fast as you want it to be. If you choose to have a laptop as your main, consider having a setup at home in which you can attach your laptop to monitors and a normal keyboard so it comes close to a desktop setup. If you decide to get your main computer as a desktop, think about getting a cheap laptop just so you can code on the go. Additionally, read reviews of computers specifically from coders as you might run into issues with certain computers that the general public wouldn't. Ensure that you fully know about the hardware necessary to becoming a coder.
